| Secondo la tradizione cristiana la chiesa sorge nel luogo dove Gesù sarebbe apparso a Pietro che scappava dalla città per non essere crocifisso. Alla richiestà dell'apostolo , Domine Quo Vadis ( Signore dove vai ? ), Christo avrebbe risposto "Venito iterum crucifigi" ( ritorno a Roma a farmi crocifiggere ) , il che avrebbe determinato l'accettazione del martirio da parte di Pietro . Da questa parabola il nome con cui la chiesa è notoriamente conosciuta . | |

| According to the Christian tradition the church was built in the place where Jesus appeared to Peter who just escaped from the city because he didn't want to be crucified .When the apostle asked "Domine quo vadis ?" ( Where are you going my Lord ? ) Christ answered "Venio iterum crucifigi" ( I am coming to Rome to be crucified ) .That's why Pietro accepted to become a martyr .Hence the fame of this church . | |
