| Costruita nel 1870 all'indomani dell'unità d'Italia sul modello delle squares inglesi,questa vasta piazza porticata prende il nome del primo Re d'Italia.E'la piu' grande della città e,attualmente in fase di restauro .Nel giardino centrale misteriose rovine,tra cui "Porta Maggiore",una porta del XVII secolo con iscrizioni e formule alchemiche,e il gruppo scultoreo soprannominato"fritto misto",scolpito prima per la fontanadi Piazza della Repubblica,ma poi sostituito col Glauco,perchè non gradito ai romani. |

| Built in 1870 just after the Italian unity, onthe example of the British squares, this great plaza owes its name to the first king of Italy. It is the biggest of the city.It seems neglected but actually is in restoration.Inside the central gardenthere are some mysterious,ruins,among them the " Porta Magica", a gate of the XVII century with inscriptions and chemical formulas, and a set of sculptures called the "fritto misto" sculpted initially for the fountain of Republica square,but substitued with Glauco,because the Romans disliked the sculptures. | |
