Piramide di Caio Cestio

| Vicino a Porta San Paolo si trova un curioso monumento funerario ispirato al gusto egiziano,particolarmente dio moda dopo la conquista dell'egitto nel 30 a.C.Inglobata nelle Mura Aureliane,è la tomba di un ricco magistrato romano.Caio Cestio,contemporaneo di Cicerone,morto nel 12 a.C. Egli lascio' l'incombenza della sua costruzione ai suoi eredi obbligati,secondo testamento,ad erigerla entro 330 giorni dalla sua morte.La piramide è alta 36,40 metri,ed è interamente rivestita di bianco marmo lunense,mentre la base è di travertino.Dietro vi si trova il cimitero acattolico,del XVIII secolo.Qui sono le tombe di JOHN kEATS, Percy BYSSHE SHELLEY e del figlio di Goethe. | |

| Located near San Paolo's gate , there is the strange funeral monument which makes part of Aurelian's wall and inspired by the Egyptian style of the year 30BC : Caio Cestio's tomb . This contemporary of Cicerone decided that the construction of his tomb was incumbent upon his heirs and that they were supposd to do it in less that 330 days after his death. The pyramid is 36, 40 meters high and is completely covered with white marble of moon , behind the building there is the cemetery from the 14th century. There are tombs of famous people like John Keats , Percy Bysshe Shelley, Goethe's son. |
