| Detta anche Eudossiana perchè edificata nel V secolo d.C. da Eudossia Licinia figlia dell'imperatore d'Oriente.la quale recupero' le catene portate da San Pietro.La chiesa fu fondata proprio per custodire queste sante reliquie, che si trovano dentro un'urna di bronzo mostrata ai fedeli ogni primo agosto,nel corso di una solenne cerimonia religiosa.E' qui anche il celebre Mosè di Michelangelo,una meravigliosa figura marmorea, caratterizzata da due corna,per un errore di traduzione del termine biblico "aureola di luce"Il patriarca siede su di un trono nell'atto di ricevere i dieci comandamenti. |
