| Iniziate da Caracalla nel 212 d.C. le terme funzionarono fino al VI secolo,quandoi Goti tagliarono gli acquedotti che le alimentavano.Abbandonate,dal X secolo divennero una fonte inesauribile di materiali da costruzione.Rimangono comunque il piu' grandioso e meglio conservato edificio termale di età imperiale.Accoglievano piu' di 1.500 persone,e una seduta era un rito che poteva richiedere anche molto tempo:si iniziava col bagnoturco,si passava nel calidarium,una stanza con vasca di acqua fredissima.All'estrno vi era la natatio,una piscina all'aperto.I piu' facoltosi potevano continuare le loro cure termali con massaggi aromatici.Vi erano anche palestre e addirittura una biblioteca.Oggi,i resti fanno da scenografia ad alcune rappresentazioni estive del Teatro dell'Opera. | |

| In 212 BC and the thermal bath stilled in activity till the destruction of the aqueducts wbich were the main ways to supply the town with water during the VI century.Dropped,in the X century it became a quarry where people were used to come wben they needed building materials.In spite of this,it's still the greatest and the most important thermal edifice of the imperial age.The thermal rituals were various and to get a thermal cure required a lot of time.The customer was starting with a Turkish bath,and then should go in the " Tepidarium";and at least the"Frigidarium".The ricbest customers could finish their cure with some massages with aromatic oils.Outside the building there was a Gymnasium and library.Nowdays the ruins are the scenography of the annual performance of the Opera's theatre. | |
